Electric cars can save the environment

Electric car ownership has its disadvantages, but electric cars are good for the planet and your wallet.

Electric cars can help the environment by reducing fossil fuel use.  They can also save you money. They’re environment friendly and they don’t emit pollutants. Electric cars can lower the cost of fuel by 60% according to a Consumer Reports study.   They also can help you pay less for maintenance; 31% less on average according to a recent study. The normal lifespan of a battery of an electric car is usually 10-20 years before it needs to be changed.

Electric cars have some disadvantages as well, including the length of time it can take to find electric charging stations and recharge.  Without a fast charger, it usually takes 4 – 6 hours or even a full day to recharge. Another disadvantage of electric cars is their range limitations.  Some models – especially older ones with degraded batteries – can only drive 50 – 100 miles before they need to recharge.  Some electric cars, therefore, can’t be used for long road trips.

Despite their disadvantages, electric cars are transforming driving from China to Europe to North America and beyond.  Countries, states, cities, car companies, and even taxi companies, such as Uber and Lyft, are setting goals for 100% electric vehicle adoption.  Electric cars may seem new and strange today.  Soon enough, we will all be driving them – and the planet will be better off for it.
