Did you know thousands of sea animals are killed each year from ingesting plastic or getting entangled in it?  Some sea animals think plastic is food and eat it, and then feel full – but this can cause starvation later.   Seabirds, sea turtles, and seals are among the animals that often ingest plastic. When people eat the meat of these animals, they, too, can ingest plastic, which causes health problems.

This problem will get worse rather than better.  According to an article  in tcpalm.com, “Scientists estimate that close to 15 million tons of plastic wind up in the ocean each year.”

We have invented plastic that harms sea animals.  Now, we need to stop using plastic in order to save the sea animals.  But can Americans stop their plastic addiction?

By 2050, plastic will take all over large parts of the ocean. We need to start reducing it now rather than later.  “It’s estimated that 60 percent of all seabird species have eaten pieces of plastic, with that number predicted to increase to 99 percent by 2050,” according to biologicaldiversity.org.

Some people think that they are just animals, but their health can affect ours in many ways .

Plastic can affect our lives and health because we eat, drink, ingest, and even inhale particles. We created plastic but now we have to get rid of it .Plastic can lead to many health issues such as cancer, diabetes, and kidney problems.

But what can we do to stop plastic pollution?  We can work together by “upcycling” plastic into useful things such as jackets, and slides according to https://www.plasticmakers.org/.  “Used plastic products become new products again, keeping plastics out of our environment and reducing our need for  resources.”

By doing so, we can help the environment and improve our lives.

In New York City many of us use plastic and see plastic everywhere.   Especially in queens you will never find a street that is clean or neat . The trash travels through the sewer ditch and can later cause a lot of damage to our environment.   Unfortunately, we littered many of the masks that we wore to keep safe during the pandemic, but our litter made us less safe.  We want to be safe, but there are other living things that need to be saved too.

We want to make this world  better rather than worse . You may think why should we care about earth?  The earth is our home, and we need to take care of it.  Therefore, we need to stop plastic pollution to help the earth.
